Expanding their core Espadín offerings, through Claridad co-founder Francisca D’Acosta’s family history with maestro mezcalero Armando Martínez, this is a particularly approachable mezcal – priced and structured with both creative cocktails and thoughtful sipping in mind.
In the central valley of Oaxaca, nearby the well-known mezcal-making town of San Baltazar Guelavila, lies the village of Soledad Salinas Quiatoni, where Zapotec mezcalero Armando Martínez and his family cultivate a 40-hectare estate of Espadín, Tepeztate and Tobalá maguey. At lower elevation in the valley, their Espadín experiences more concentrated heat and sun, often reaching maturity more rapidly, and with higher brix levels – as young as 5 to 6 years. Armando and his wife Carmen oversee the mezcal production with their son-in-law, while their children help out in general around the fields and the family palenque.
The family’s collaboration with Claridad is currently only available in the State of California
