“Visionary Pursuits is a luxurious, high-gravity interpretation of a German Pils, reimagined as a barrel-fermented Scottish stock pale ale. This complex beer showcases the classic herbal and flowery elegance of Tettnang hops alongside the unique spicy and blackcurrant-like character of Bramling Cross. Despite its robust 8.7% ABV, it maintains a crisp, dry profile with a firm, lingering bitterness characteristic of the style. The interplay between the grainy-sweet malt base and the nuanced depth from barrel fermentation creates a sophisticated sensory experience, resulting in a clean, refreshing finish with a subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth and flinty minerality.
Appearance. Straw to deep yellow (3 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a creamy, long-lasting white head and excellent retention.
Aroma. Moderately high intensity featuring flowery and herbal hops from Tettnang, complemented by the spicy and dark fruit notes of Bramling Cross. Low grainy, sweet, and doughy malt character with a light honey quality. Clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial grainy malt flavor quickly overcome by assertive hop bitterness and flavor. Herbal and spicy hop notes from Tettnang and Bramling Cross dominate, leading into a bone-dry, crisp finish. High bitterness lingers in the aftertaste with a touch of toasted cracker malt and a flinty minerality.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high carbonation. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth. Features a crisp, clean finish with a slight minerally sharpness and no harshness.”
